Charlie’s machine aims for an eco-friendly and sustainable mode of operation. It still needs a lot of improvement:
Most of the arts and crafts supplies we use aren’t environmentally friendly, such as the bright and shiny colours, non-recycled bleached paper,
plastic beads and googly-eyes. Also, various electronic parts we use for our tinkering have possibly been manufactured under
inhumane conditions. And the batteries that Charlie’s machine used up so far would fill a bucket.
We have the following ideas for doing things better: Work with second-hand art supplies, collect spare materials and save treasures that are to be thrown out. Rarely we buy stuff for a specific project, much rather we let our collection of materials inspire us. When buying new pencils and colours, it’s worthwhile to choose brand name products of good quality because you do not want to end up throwing things in the trash in disappointment. Wood glue is our thing, hardly ever Charlie messes about with a hot glue gun. We use rechargeable batteries and take electronic components from equipment that is no longer usable.
At a yard sale, Charlie got a box of embroidery thread and snap fasteners. With these supplies he created over 50 pieces of art already.
Our neighbour gave away paint, brushes, and craft paper when she moved.
We used up all the acrylic paint for a colourful supersize project.
Lego technic sets from flea markets are often incomplete, but who cares. We washed and sorted the parts and now have quite a collection of gear wheels.
We wish to thank all those kind people who like our nonsense and support it.
Particularly we thank Charlie’s amazing teachers – in person and online in
the whole world from Mozambique in the south to the Northwest Territories in the north and in all kind of
places in between:

Charlie loves nice comments! Until now the machine can – unfortunately – not generate time for answering. We will, however, put some of your best comments on this page. Of course we won’t give full names or addresses in order to protect the rare creatures' privacy on Charlie’s island.

errors might occur – please let us know and we will try to correct any mistakes. Also the machine
occasionally needs repair works and we cannot guarantee for it to be online at all hours.
We’d like to thank the designers of open source font Fredericka the Great, the makers of
Bootstrap and JQuery Framework for all those possibilities, and the JSSOR team for the sliders!
